Spotlight Classes have specific focus on one particular aspect of yoga with far greater teacher / student interaction to aid learning. KPY periodically invites expert guest teachers to take Spotlight Classes ensuring students get a chance to learn from different expert teachers and broaden their knowledge.


Joan HymanJoin Director of Teacher Trainings for Wanderlust and renowned Yoga Works Senior Teacher Trainer, Joan Hyman, as she shares tips and tricks to explore the seemingly  opposite yet integrated dimensions of strength and flexibility in highly intelligent sequences.

Joan’s grounded teaching style creates space for students to deepen their personal journey while aligning with teachings of true yogic traditions. Joan’s teachings come from an organic and intuitive place, as she draws upon the joyful study of Ashtanga and Iyengar, Ayurveda, and meditation.

With over 20 years of experience leading retreats, trainings, and workshops worldwide – 15 of which as a distinguished YogaWorks senior teacher – Joan recently brought her expertise to Wanderlust. As Director of Teacher Trainings, Joan collaborates with teachers who are experts in their field of study with the goal to create an eclectic training program for students at any level.

Originally from Philadelphia, Joan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Temple University. She completed the YogaWorks Teacher Training with the renowned Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford in 2002, followed by further study with Annie Carpenter, who is known for her SmartFlow® system of highly intelligent sequencing. She received her YogaWorks Certification in 2006 and took her first trip to Mysore, India to study with the beloved Sri K. No need to fight your way up, learn a pathway to channel these postures into your practice with enthusiasm and ease. The invigorating practice integrates core and shoulder girdle work which helps burn away impurities in the body and mind to help you get up and stay up.

From Resistance to Surrender: Finding your Comfortable Seat with your Hips

Release all that does not serve you. Explore your body, mind and spirit in this heated flow practice focused on deep hip openings. Finding your seat creates space and ease, to move towards the more subtle part of your practice — pranayama. You will shift resistance into surrender and find a deep release in your physical body and in your soul.

Both sessions are suitable for all levels.
