The Chai Wallah’s Interview:
What is your favourite type of class to teach? My journey began with vinyasa and that will always be close to my heart. But my passion has always been for prenatal yoga, even before becoming a mom myself. I cherish the intimacy, joy, and unity shared during a pregnancy yoga class. It is a privilege to educate, support and empower women during their transition into motherhood; and seem them leave feeling like peaceful and powerful birth goddesses.
What is your favourite pose? If you asked this 2 years ago I would have said some really challenging arm balance or handstand and now I am more likely to enjoy and benefit from something nurturing and restorative like Supta Baddha Konasana…a pose where I can ground, recharge, meditate, and soak up the peace of the present moment.
What is your least favourite pose and why? That’s tricky, as it depends on the style being practiced and the focus of the pose during that class. I guess I would have to say revolved triangle, as there are SO many pieces and parts…so much going on to get the pose in correct alignment!
What keeps bringing you back to your yoga mat? I love learning about myself; I love the continual personal growth no matter how challenging, because it’s also so rewarding. And, as my husband says, I shine more brightly after I practice!
What is the strangest place you have done a yoga practice/pose? Underwater, on a plane, the beach in Goa…but nothing compares to in the delivery room!
What always makes you laugh? On the yoga mat: the ego driven yogi, because I used to be one. Off the mat: watching and hearing my son laugh…it’s such a deep, whole body, authentic laughter.
What is one of your personal quirks/habits/idiosyncrasies? I have to pick just one, hmmm…I value my personal space, some may say I’m borderline claustrophobic!
What is one thing about you that most people don’t know (until now)? I met my husband in Singapore…on a blind date!
